RAÍCES | ROOTS (Soy de aquí | I am from here)
In partnership with Salem 400+, Salem Maritime NHS, and the Peabody Essex Museum, PUAM presents RAÍCES | ROOTS, a new mural exhibit created by New England–based artists. Through 8′×8′ works, artists and residents explore their raíces, the roots of self, family, and community, reflecting on belonging, identity, immigration, and legacy.
The exhibit aligns with Salem’s 400th anniversary, honoring the layered histories of this place and its people. It celebrates migration, resilience, and reinvention as the living roots that continue to shape the beauty and spirit of Salem.
The Creative Neighbor program is a PUAM initiative that invites Salem residents to explore the world of outdoor muralism. Participants create public art in the Point neighborhood, connect with the community, and learn painting techniques through hands-on experience. This program fosters participation, creativity, and pride of place, transforming neighbors into public realm artists.
To support the Creative Neighbors, participants are paired with local artists who have mentorship experience, guiding them through the process of bringing their visions to life on Salem’s walls.
