Kedrin Alexander Frias is a husband, father, former elementary school art teacher, and freelance artist. Born and raised in Providence, Rhode Island, he taught art and led mural projects in the Providence Public Schools for over a decade. A graduate of Rhode Island College, where he studied drawing, painting, and sculpture, he also spent 13 years teaching and mentoring young artists at New Urban Arts, a nonprofit supporting creative youth development. Alongside teaching, Kedrin creates commissioned portraits known for their vibrant, emotional qualities. His work seeks to connect with all people but especially resonates with immigrants, serving as both a mirror and a celebration of the immigrant experience in America. For this mural, he is choosing to paint a portrait of his daughter Adeline. He wants to paint her in black and white, or in a monotone manner showing her as a tree growing from her mixed roots. She is the product of Dominican, and Dutch/British ancestry of her parents.
