Gabriela Sepúlveda Ortíz is a Puerto Rican artist based in Western Massachusetts whose practice centers on history, labor, and cultural resistance. Working across painting, sculpture, mixed media, and embroidery, her work draws on folklore and the material culture of the Puerto Rican diaspora to excavate what official narratives leave out.
Her current work investigates Puerto Rican labor and identity through painting, vejigante mask-making, and textile work.
Sepúlveda Ortíz holds a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and an MFA in Graphic Design from Atlantic University College. Her work has been exhibited at the Fitchburg Art Museum, Springfield Museums, and the Mary Cosgrove Dolphin Gallery in Boston, among other venues. She has been recognized with the Arts Next Up Award, the Mass Cultural Council Cultural Sector Recovery Grant, and was selected as an Alternate for the Edward Hopper House Museum Juried Exhibition in 2026.
