Alexa aka Lexi. I have always wanted to help others since I was a Child. I am studying psychology at Salem State, at the moving to college program, I was awarded a scholarship and housing for 4 years, and I’m super glad to be there. I want to be an art therapist for children with trauma. I want to help my community, I am the first in my family to go to college. I was born in 1999, Dec 4 in Beverly MA. My favorite hobby is creating and listening to music and spending quality time with my family. I think art is healing and art can be interpreted in many different ways. I want my art to positively influence everyone.
My mural concept, my grandparents, helped to raise me for most of my childhood. My grandfather dedicated lots of time to teach me to catch monarch butterflies, he passed away a few months ago. In my mural, I am including a butterfly to capture my grandfather’s spirit that lives through the butterflies. I am also including this quote “ Seek peace and pursue it” in Spanish “Busca la Paz y Siguela ” and “Without darkness, you will not grow to see the light”. I have been through a lot of challenges and seen the dark times, but just because there is darkness it doesn’t mean there isn’t light just about to come, and that is my perspective.
