We identify with this doll because it reminds us of agricultural work, planting and harvesting corn, being part of the entire process. Feeling the corn husk in our hands connects us deeply. By reflecting on the clothing of Belinda’s doll, we express a vision that reveals the true field worker. This process ties us to our Honduran culture and to Latin American agricultural traditions. We imagine illustrating it with symbols that show Belinda and her grandmother making and selling corn husk dolls, honoring their relationship, their work, and a cultural heritage of resilience and care.

Nos identificamos con esta muñeca porque nos recuerda el trabajo agrícola de sembrar y cosechar maíz, siendo parte del proceso completo. Sentir la hoja del maíz en las manos nos conecta profundamente. Al reflexionar sobre la vestimenta de la muñeca de Belinda, expresamos una visión que revela a la auténtica trabajadora del campo. Este proceso nos une a nuestra cultura hondureña y a las tradiciones agrícolas latinoamericanas. Imaginamos ilustrarla con símbolos que muestren a Belinda y su abuela produciendo y vendiendo muñecas de hoja de maíz, honrando así su relación, su trabajo y una herencia cultural de resiliencia y cuidado.

Inspiring story of a resident

The faceless doll I created for this competition is inspired by muñecas de tusa, traditional Honduran corn husk dolls. As the name suggests, these dolls are made from corn husks and are known for being vibrant and colorful. I chose this doll because I grew up watching my grandmother make them. She used to sell them at the annual flower festival back home in Honduras, and I would always go with her to her stand in the downtown market. When I heard about this competition, I wanted to give it a try. I’m not gonna lie, I had never made one before! But it was a challenge, and I’m proud of myself, flaws and all.

Historia inspiradora de una residente

La muñeca sin rostro que hice para esta competencia está inspirada en las muñecas de tusa, muñecas tradicionales hondureñas hechas de hojas de maíz. Son conocidas por ser vibrantes y coloridas. Elegí esta muñeca porque crecí viendo a mi abuela hacerlas. Ella las vendía en un festival anual de flores en Honduras, y yo siempre la acompañaba a su puesto en el mercado del centro. Cuando escuché que habría una competencia de muñecas, quise intentarlo. No voy a mentir: ¡nunca había hecho una! Pero fue un reto, y estoy orgullosa de mí misma, con todos sus defectos y todo.
