A Dream Deferred

My submission A Dream Deferred was inspired by a combination of the famous poem by Langston Hughes and the financial strife my generation has been burdened with. For me the American Dream has been tied to what can be afforded whether that be health insurance, to go to college, payoff interest on bloated student loans, save enough for a down payment, start a family, or simply keep up with the rising cost of living. The dream while still there has been deferred, delayed, to a later date when we can all make our payment.

This deferral has left myself and others disillusioned, sharply aware that a heavy cost is tied to our dreams. To illustrate this I’ve lettered this phrase in a glitched manner, slightly disjointed and misaligned. Sitting atop the faded word dream is an asterisk, symbolic of the conditions and restriction placed upon them.
