My submission responds to the prompt “What it Means to Be Free” through my lens as a Black woman in America. Our freedom as Black folks in this country is complicated. As much of America has begun to wake up and see this year, this “freedom” still comes with a caveat to this day. Our lives are still not valued, and so many people in my community are unjustly murdered or placed into the modern day slavery of prison.
